full outside off again, clubbed to long-on
Hurricanes vs Sixers, 1st Match at Hobart, BBL, Dec 10 2020 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10.48 pm: Hobart Hurricanes pocket 3 points. Sydney Sixers get 1 point, for being ahead at the 10-over mark. I can foresee a lot of discussion around this rule, but that's for later on in the tournament. For now, this is Saurabh Somani, signing off, on behalf of Chandan too.
Tim David is the player of the match. "Was glad we could get to a good score. Lots of new faces but it's been great fun. Awesome to start with a win, we're stoked."
Stats maven Shiva Jayaraman has this shrewd observation: "Contrasting results of taking the Power Surge for the teams in this game. In six overs since taking the Power Surge Hobart Hurricanes scored 82 runs at 13.66 runs an over. In six overs since Sydney Sixers took the Power Surge, they managed just 42 runs. Sixers had raced to 99/1 from 11 overs before opting for Power Surge."
10.41 pm: Hurricanes have won by 16 runs. Superb contest all the way through, both teams had it in their grasp at various times, but the Hurricanes were better with the ball in the latter half than the Sixers were. The defending champions open their campaign with a loss. Superb hands by Ingram first up, and then David really cut loose for Hurricanes. Meredith provided the firepower with the ball after Vince and Edwards had set the chase up for Sixers well.
fuller outside off, makes room and drills it straight back past the bowler
full on the legs again. Brathwaite is making a giant stride to clear his front leg and that gives him room to swing freely but the length is such that he can only send it along the ground to deep midwicket
full outside off, moves across and swipes across the line to deep midwicket
chipped to cover. Superb bowling. He kept it full and on the legside - exactly the plan Christian himself bowled in fact - and although Christian was making room, the ball was still too close to him. Tried to steer it away but ended up chipping to the man
low full toss on leg stump ,he's clearing his front leg and swinging mightily, gets it off the middle but it's to deep midwicket and there's a fielder there
25 needed off the last over and Brathwaite on strike. We've been here before.
moved across to try and swing it over midwicket but the ball goes through him
brilliant shot-making. Slower ball on the stumps, waited for it, went down and used his wrists to flick it very fine
high full toss, slapped over extra cover with no timing at all. They hustle two runs. It's close to a no-ball for height, but just under the waist
full outside off, Christian holds his shape this time to thump a straight off drive. Long-off is not very wide though so can cut it off to his right
Was clearing his front leg so Ellis bowled it wide outside off. I thought that was inside the tramline but the umpire has called it wide
through him. In the channel outside off and he swishes at it but doesn't connect
Carlos Brathwaite now
caught at long-off. He had to go for it but wasn't in great position. Silk moved across but the ball was wide outside off, he wanted to slam it over cover but ends up splicing it and it swirls to long-off
34 needed off 12.
full toss, attempted yorker gone wrong perhaps, but Silk can't take advantage of it. Tough to do when he pace is nudging 147 clicks, and he just manages to flick it to deep square leg on the bounce
and now a 148.5 kph ball in the same area - back of a length and into the batsman who's making room. He gets it high on the bat as he's trying to pull as the ball trickles into the legside
length ball on leg stump, slower one again, but this time he's ready for it and swivels to pull. Can't place it wide of the deep square leg though
banged in at 149.5 kph into his body, he's clearing his front leg and wants to pull but doesn't time it. Goes to midwicket off the under-edge
Dan Christian ahead of Carlos Brathwaite.
inside edge cannons into the stumps. Meredith on fire. Full outside off, this was one of his slower balls I think, and Hughes aimed to launch a cover drive at it. Takes the inside edge and clatters into the stumps
he's moving across and so the bowler bowls it across him and wider. Back of a length. Misses the pull
38 off 18 now. Getting tougher. Six of those 18 will be bowled by Meredith. And he's on now. Interesting move. I'd have thought he might come on in the 19th over.
low full toss on off, he's moving across and uses wrists to flick powerfully to deep midwicket, but there's a fielder there
