swings to the on side against a length ball, trickles off the bottom edge to short fine leg
AUS Women vs NZ Women, 1st T20I at Brisbane, NZ-W in AUS, Sep 26 2020 - Match Result
Australia win by 17 runs on the opening day of the international summer in the country. After all that's gone on, that feels the most important part. As so often, Australia's depth and confidence shone through. New Zealand didn't pace their chase very well but may consider they didn't have the rub of the green with the umpires. Ash Gardner produced the standout batting of the match, while all Australia's bowlers played a part. Australia will know there's room for improvement as well, but after a six-month break that's hardly surprising.
Player of the Match is Ash Gardner "Pretty good pitch, it held a bit. Our aim was to go left and right handers. Nice to spend some time in the middle."
Sophie Devine "They probably got 10-20 runs too many. With the bat we just let it slip away. We'll get back into it tomorrow."
Meg Lanning "I thought we fought really nicely, Ash's innings was excellent. We had the luxury of knowing what would work bowling on that wicket. We were under the pump a little."
I'll wrap up the coverage for today. We'll be back tomorrow afternoon for the second match and hope you can join us. Until then, from Andrew McGlashan, it's goodbye.
Andrew C: "NZ have been Schutt Down."
strong shot, up and over the off side
Schutt has two balls to claim her maiden T20I five-wicket haul
taken at deep midwicket, that's four for Schutt...Jensen came down the pitch but just ended up offering catching practice
that's a strong clip which almost carries to deep midwicket
a swing and miss, slides past off stump
moves across the crease and scoops a length ball into the hands of short fine leg
Australia have this wrapped up
Arunabh: "I am surprised no one in critisizing Devine's approach. If we removed her boundaries from her scores then she made only 7 off 30. Can't bat like that and expect to win against Australia."
a square drive slides off the face to backward point
swung down to long-on
inside edge past leg stump and wide of Healy. In fact, no bat and Healy missed it
that's a good shot, comes down the pitch and drives over mid-off this time
driven but can't beat mid-off on the edge of the circle
full at off stump, square driven to point
ASensarma: "Ashleigh Gardner is the only one who could figure out this pitch today. Clear Player of the Match for me if Australia win it from here ... But still hoping for a close finish as a neutral fan!"
uses her feet and works out to deep midwicket
Mark: "NZ have paced this chase very poorly. They started the match well and then let it drift. Very disappointing performance."
You feel this has gone for New Zealand now
and that's that! Such a good over from Schutt. This is a length ball, it's another toe end and lands in the hands of mid-off
nearly bowled! Stayed in her crease this time, swinging across the line, just clears the stumps
terrific bowling again, another superb change of pace, completely defeats as she charges down the pitch
down the pitch, finds cover! This came off the toe end and didn't carry further than the edge of the circle. Pace off from Schutt, well bowled
full outside off, heaved out to deep midwicket. Australia will be fine with singles
And now Schutt returns
That over keeps New Zealand in it
moving right across outside off and drags a very full delivery to deep midwicket
full outside off, jabbed to backward point
