Sams, as he has done all night, slips one in too full without meaning to bowl a yorker, and Neesham loves the slot ball. Slogs it over midwicket. And KXIP have won this without taking it into the last over
DC vs Kings XI, 38th Match at Dubai, IPL, Oct 20 2020 - Match Result
Kings XI won by 5 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)
And with that, KXIP have reached No. 5 on the table with eight points. One win behind KKR and two behind RCB. They have beaten three big teams in their last three games, and they now have three games against SRH, CSK and RR. Not underestimating anyone, but they should be easier than beaten MI, DC and RCB. With that thought, we leave you tonight. Thanks for joining us. See you tomorrow
Shikhar Dhawan, the Man of the Match: "The boys have been playing well in other games. Today I had to take the responsibility on myself. I really enjoyed it today. It is good that I am scoring consistently so you carry it into the next games. We are going to have a discussion and see where we can improve. Of course it is going to be a learning. This is not going to put us down. Just take our lessons, and come back stronger."
KL Rahul: "My heart keeps reaching new limits every game but yeah it is nice to finish it in the 19th over for once. I did wonder, I won't lie, especially when you are playing with six batsmen and an allrounder. It is something every team talks about: the set batsman has to finish off the game. One of the top four does that. We have to correct that. They have been bowling really well. Shami obviously is coming in with confidence from the last game. He is our senior bowler, and an international, and he is getting better and better every game. Arshdeep bowled two overs in the Powerplay and one at the death. To nail six out of six yorkers is great. Shows you the work he and the coaches have been putting in. Glenn is a great team man. He has been batting well in the nets. It was important to back him. It was good to see him get time in the middle. Hopefully he carries this good work into the coming games I didn't sleep a whole lot after that Sunday game. Took a long time to sink in. Kept thinking all night how we could have closed it off before the Super Over. But it keeps us humble; the game is bigger than any of us."
Nicholas Pooran: "Wonderful game. We spoke about being consistent. Get better in areas that we have not been good. Really happy we didn't go to the last over again. I have been working really hard, and hitting it well. I didn't finish off, which is disappointing for me. I am a natural aggressive player. if it is in my zone, I hit it. Simple."
Shreyas Iyer: I feel we fell 10 runs short. Nevertheless we have got a lot of learnings from this game. Shikhar batted brilliantly, that is a positive. Tushar leaked a lot of runs, but this has happened to the best of all. So he will learn a lot from him. The message from Shikhar to the new batsmen was that the wicket was stopping a little bit. I am really glad this this happened because the boys will be really motivated in the next game. The fielding wasn't up to the mark. So we will learn from this and come back."
KXIP have now beaten three top teams this IPL in their last three games. This has been a strange game from DC. When they were batting, only Dhawan scored. When they were bowling, one bowler undid all the good work. However, it is very questionable the times Deshpande was used at. When Gayle is new to the wicket, when Ashwin has been taking wickets in the Powerplay for fun, they brought Deshpande ahead of Ashwin. Gayle murdered that over. And then when they had just taken a double-strike, DC went back to Deshpande. This time Pooran got stuck in. So Deshpande conceded 25% of the total in just two overs, 10% of the overs. Once again my Man of the Match is Shami with 4-0-28-2 on a good wicket. Two of those overs bowled at the death. Impeccable yorkers
oh man. KXIP trying their best to take this into the Super Over, but DC say no thanks, we will let you have an easy one. Hooda goes for a big shot to a length ball, it seems like a slight offcutter, and he skies it to extra cover where Stoinis drops him
short of a length, just outside off, pushed to cover-point who is in tight on the single
short of a length, into the body, tucked away to long leg
length ball, outside off, driven to deep cover for one more
more blips on the way, though, as Neesham looks for a big shot down the ground and gets a thick outside edge for a single to third man
Sams to bowl
DC's best bowlers done, and KXIP needs just eight off the last two with five wickets in hand. Surely they can't go to Super Over from here?
down the wicket, yorks himself up, pushes this to midwicket
that should be the shot that does it for KXIP. Just a little short of length, and he goes deep into the crease to whip it over midwicket and into the gap on the leg side
sweeps this from around off for a single to deep square leg
quicker, into the pads, and this time he hits it back to Patel
full, outside off, driven down the ground, but can't beat the short straight extra cover
length ball, into the pads, worked to leg for one
Patel is DC's last bet
Ashwin done too
nearly a stumping. Ashwin bowls a legbreak, beats him in the flight as he skips down the wicket. Oh this is a wrong'un in fact. He has done him in twice in one ball, but he gets his pad in the way and it deflects out of Pant's reach
slows this one down, offbreak on middle and off, he waits for it to turn and works this to leg for one
full, outside off, 96ks, which is quick for Ashwin. Defended to cover
short of a length, outside off, cut away past point for one
opens the face on this but short third man is tight on the single
carrom ball, front edge to the left of Ashwin, who puts in a dive to save the single
Ashwin it is
A new left-hand batsman at the wicket. Time for Ashwin? But Neesham is still not on strike
With that, Rabada is done for the night
wide length ball, driven on the up to deep point for one
In comes Jimmy Neesham, but Hooda is on strike. Mid-off and mid-on are both up
oh that touch was too brief. Maxwell goes back and across looking for a pick-up shot into the leg side, and Rabada stays on a length outside off. This is bowled cross-seam, and it sits in the surface a touch. He toe-ends a skier for Pant to take. Not without a dive, though, as these catches in Dubai have been tough to judge
