and Umesh with the winning runs! He had it planned all along! Overpitched outside off again, flat again. Lots of pace again. And lots of gusto as Umesh swings for it to get it past cover
SRH vs RCB, 54th Match at Bengaluru, IPL, May 04 2019 - Ball by Ball Commentary
RCB won by 4 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)
12:02am A heartfelt message of gratefulness from Kohli to the crowd, tells them he's just as attached to RCB as they are. Vows to come back better next year. And we'll be there for that. For now - good night! And don't forget to join us for the double-header tomorrow. Ashwin against his home, and against Dhoni. And, of course, the big one: Mumbai Indians v Kolkata Knight Riders. Mumbai looking to get into the top two, and KKR looking to sneak into the playoffs. It will be tasty. See you!
Kohli: If we focus on the second half, I think it was exactly what we wanted in the first half. Look after losing the first six matches, it's very hard to come back. At least winning two in the first six - the first week really matters in setting your intensity. The way the boys have turned it around was great. You don't want to go out there and feel hopeless. To be honest, we spoke about it ealrier today: although we haven't finished where we wanted to, it doesn't feel like a bad season the way we did in the second half. It's not been a season of a lot of happiness, but we can really be proud of way we've come back and some of the youngsters who showed their character. When we AB and I got out, I think the opposition also took things a bit lightly. We spoke upstairs, "game on". Hetty, we know he can play like that, and hope to see him play more like that next year.
Hetmyer: To start was a little tough. was just getting used to the environment and the IPL. [Expectations bogging you down?] Sometimes it gets in your head but just try and clear your head as much as possible and go and execute. It's fantastic [RCB], I've learnt a lot from both AB and Virat and all the coaches. Just trying to take it one step at a time.
Shimron Hetmyer is the Man of the Match.
Gurkeerat: The thing is, I went into bat in a good position and had a lot of overs to spare. I was just looking to build a partnership with Hetty. When you have someone like him, you don't have to do anything silly. I just tried to get my common sense on. Really happy that we ended on a good note. The crowd has been amazing for us and we want to thank them even though things haven't gone our way. [This innings] means a lot because I haven't been on the field for nearly two years. I just wanted to make my presence felt.
K Williamson: Absolutely [let destiny go]. Halfway stage, felt like we had a competitive total. But after the start with the ball, we were right in the game. Unfortunately weren't able to pick wickets in that middle period. Credit to Bangalore. Naturally if you take your opportunities, it does help. But that's also cricket. In the first innings would have been nice to have another 10-15 if things well. We stagnated in the middle.
I suppose there are a number of fine lines. Look at our last two matches, could have gone either way but we lost both. It is one of those things. We've to sit and wait now, things are out of our control, which is a shame. Fingers crossed, we can sneak through.
Krishna: "Frustrating to end up on wrong side in last 2 matches. Been unlucky for srh, their nrr being the highest says that. Win handsomely but lose closely"
Mustafa Haidri: "RCB might just have taken the revenge of IPL 2012 when Hydrebad(then Deccan Chargers) had restricted them from a playoff spot. Have been waiting for this day!! :D"
Apoorv: "Bhuvi is also very cool headed guy. Even after so much drops off his bowling he never looks angry.shows only little of disappointment. His tally would be totally different if those catches were taken. A die hard bhuvi and srh fan."
Samrat Ahuja: "The threat of structural changes by Kirsten worked wonders on all players today!"
vishal pawar: "That means KXIP right now placed at the bottom of the table and still has a chance of qualifying to playoffs! Strange!"
Nilashish..: "Oh thank you sweet lord!! Thank you umesh.. from all the Kkr fans.."
Sunim Acharya: "The ones who gives shall take. Yadavji"
Chintan Parekh: "Couldn't end better than this for Umesh and RCB, Umesh got his revenge for that last over.. It's good, must be good for his confidence"
11:40pm A jumping, fist-pumping Kohli. RCB finish lower than RR and will be last if KXIP wins. If not, it's seventh place! But they won't let those things get in the way of performing a lap for their fans, who have filled the stadium despite another below-par season. Sunrisers now need KKR to lose to go through. They'll be the first team to go through with only 12 points if that happens. And to put that in perspective - RCB were potential playoff contenders if they'd got one more win. It's been that slim, this season.
For KKR - a win takes them through. And boy will they be sending some gifts over to Hetmyer and Gurkeeerat. It's not heard of in this franchise's history for names other than Kohli, Gayle and AB to pull off unreal feats. 20 for 3 when they came together and they put up 144 from there, scything through a very potent bowling attack. A nice way to finish for them.
slaps it to the point boundary! For all the silence he evoked with that 28-run over, Umesh has the crowd delirious right now. What a shot. Full and flat and wide from Nabi and he times this perfectly to get it past point
What an over from Khaleel! Umesh has retained strike for the last over. Chance at redemption? SRH can go Shankar now, or Nabi...Saurabh tells me from the ground it's going to be Nabi.
full on middle stump, drilled down to long-on
slower ball at a length on middle stump, flicked into the leg side
slower short ball wide outside off, late cut is going going going...until Bhvuneshwar chucks his body at it and stops to his right
taken at mid-off! Oh you're kidding me! The Chinnaswamy crowd must have seen more twists in this stage of a game than anyone else. Sundar with...to be honest, an utterly pathetic shot. Slower short of a length ball outside off. He shuffles, presumably to pull. But ends up jabbing at it, well in front of his body. Chipped straight over the bowler and Pandey hangs on
yorker, wide outside off. Looks to chop, beaten
straight to point! Slower short ball outside off from around the wicket. He looks to chop this over point but he finds Yusuf Pathan who - finally - finds the ball. Gurkeerat and Hetmyer have both departed after bringing it till here. Is there something in this still for SRH? We'll see. But for now - what a super knock. And all things considered, a statement, from Gurkeerat. He's an experienced domestic player. Even played for India once, remember. He's played a lovely, calm knock today
Nas: "Would like a hattrick here, please. Thanks"
length ball down leg side, looks to flick, won't connect
full and just outside off, driven off the toe-end to long-off
And that's the end of Rashid.
length at middle stump, flicked to deep midwicket
past the outside edge. Length outside off, pokes at it and isn't close to connecting
taken at long-off. Shankar stretches up and holds on to it in front of the SRH dugout. Hetmyer is livid with himself. He lost control of that shot. Short ball, googly, spinning away outside off. He wanted to cut firmly but that got big on him and he had to check his shot. It's commentary on the size of this ground that this shot was taken narrowly inside play because he didn't time that too well. But what a fantastic innings. Stunning, as he always is when he spends any amount of decent time in the middle
pulled over long-on! Short ball in at middle stump from around the wicket. Uses the angle, uses the depth in the crease and, most importantly, the poor length. Drills it
short of a length on middle stump, nudged to long-on off the back foot
slapped over deep square! They just haven't let Rashid settle down. Googly, short at leg stump. Gets back in the crease and gets it flat to the fielder's left
Applause from the crowd. That's the end of Bhuvneshwar, 2 for 24 from his four. 25 needed now off 18.
yorker at off stump, jammed towards mid-off to steal the single
nicely directed bouncer. Up at the left shoulder. Looks to hook and is beaten
full outside off, looks to pump this through the off side. Gets a thick inside edge towards deep midwicket
length on middle stump, punched to long-on
Akshit V : "@Vishal Hasn't that been the conclusion for RCB after every season? Only for them to repeat the same mistakes the next season... "
length outside off, slapped on the up to long-off
short of a length on leg stump, looks to flick and cops it on the thigh
Over 20 • RCB 178/6
