flings over deep backward square! LSG win comfortably, with five wickets and four wickets in the bank. A massive hit to end the game. Fuller side of a length around off, and Pooran thrashed it away across the line. LSG win a low-scoring game
SRH vs LSG, 10th Match at Lucknow, IPL, Apr 07 2023 - Match Result
LSG won by 5 wickets (with 24 balls remaining)
Deepak Hooda has broken the record for most catches by a fielder (10) in IPL for LSG, going past Ayush Badoni's 9
This is the lowest match aggregate (248) involving SRH & LSG in IPL
So LSG are now table toppers, well clear of both GT and PBKS on net run rate, although having played a game more than both. They produced a pitch that ended up in their favour today, as Pandya and Amit Mishra turned the screws. That's it from us tonight, as this is Himanshu signing off on behalf of Hemant and Thilak!
Krunal Pandya is the Player of the Match: "Very good day at the office. Both [wickets and runs] pleased me. Everything was special today. [SRH] having more right-handers, I knew I was going to bowl early. Once you have clarity, things automatically fall into place. Last four or five months I took a break from cricket. I just worked on my skills, especially on bowling. Worked on my action... wanted to get that arm ball going. Pretty much enjoying batting. Trying to recollect my first few years in IPL where I was batting at No. 4 for Mumbai. I am absolutely okay with any track!"
LSG captain KL Rahul: "[We realised] yesterday how the wicket was going to play! We knew what we were getting into. We saw in the first couple of overs: when Jaydev bowled a few cutters, they were gripping. I knew KP's better in the powerplay. Both [wins] were hard work... had different challenges. We have been here for a few weeks. Just a general chat with the batsmen; each person plays differently."
Time for the presentations
Amit Mishra, who took 2 for 23 for LSG: "Feeling good. I've done a lot of hard work, especially in fielding. That's my bowling style (bowling slower). I was just trying to vary my pace, and bowl slower. Whatever I can do, I'm doing in the fielding! I got some time on that (the catch)! The red soil has little bounce and less spin; black soil was slower and lower, though not turning much"
SRH captain Aiden Markram after the loss: "Not enough. That 150-160 mark, and we would have been in the game. We realised it wasn't going to be a great wicket for batting... happy to fight it out and scratch away. Good effort [with the ball]. They tried hard, and fought. It's a new game of cricket starting for us on Sunday."
NethraReya: "@Vamsi: you guys jinx even the revenue Gods!!" --- No one is spared here when it comes to a jinx
10.49pm A slow, low pitch where SRH decided to bat first, and it didn't work out. Dew wasn't expected to play a role, and it didn't; in the end, it turned out to be a low-scorer on a track where the ball gripped and turned. The slower you went, the more effective you happened to be. Pandya's all-round show propelled LSG to first restrict SRH to 121, and then keep tickling along in the chase. Hang around for the presentations.
One to win. The field is up
high full toss on the stumps, and pushed wide of mid-off after charging down the pitch
Vamsi: "The revenue Gods will be praying for Nattu to not give more than 2 runs to have a Strategic time out"
flashes at this good length just outside off, and finds extra cover
change of pace. Shortish just outside off, and pushed back to the bowler
length ball wide of off, and driven to deep point away from his body
Dheeraj: "Why did you jinx by saying last over of day?" --- If only...
punches at this good length ball angled into off, but gets an outside edge to deep third
LSG one hit away, and here comes Natarajan. From around
turns in off a shortish length, and ends on middle and off. Nudged to short midwicket
PV: "If only..."
full and slower on off, and defended towards short third
keeps low off a good length, ending outside off after turning away, as Pooran punched and missed
looks to paddle sweep, and gets four behind the wicket as the ball lobs off his top edge. Full and outside off, heading away further from the left-hander
Rashid on a hat-trick. Pooran to face.
given out again, and reviewed again! Now this one was a big-turning googly after he got Rahul with a legspinner. This also looked like heading down leg, as Rashid bowls on a good length on off, only for the ball to end on leg stump. Shepherd was playing on off stump, with a massive gap between bat and pad, with the latter around leg. And guess what, it is umpire's call on clipping the top of leg. That was great turn there
Shepherd in
given out leg before wicket, as Rahul misses his reverse sweep! That looked plumb to the naked eye, but hang on... Rahul has reviewed even as he is walking back. Length ball ball flicked from the front of the hand on leg stump, as it turned away to end around middle. Rahul reverse swept but swung his bat early, with the ball passing his bottom edge. No bat involved there, as he is struck on what seems to be middle stump. Yup, that would have smacked the middle stump, and SRH get a consolation wicket
Rashid back, and with a slip
Just eight more to get. Maybe the last over of the day?
makes room, and even skips down. But the ball is shortish and angling into leg, as Stoinis dabs it down
Roop: "17 extras in a low-scoring game is a crime."
good length ball angled in, and ends just outside off. Punched to mid-off
low full toss angled into the stumps, and just pushed between the stumps and the non-striker. Just uses the pace on the ball, as he hardly even moves his front foot there
shorter side of a length on middle. Nudged to mid-on
very full and on the stumps. Flicked to short midwicket
drives at this good length ball on sixth stump. Single to deep point
Farooqi back from around the wicket
he is almost squared up by this shortish ball on middle, which straightened after pitching. Dabbed down though
goes quite full, but wide of off. Left alone by Stoinis
