"The end was chaotic with Delhi Capitals threatening to call their players back and sending an assistant coach onto the field to get a call overturned, but the serenity of yet another Jos Buttler hundred trumped all else in the final equation.

Buttler began looking unable to get bat on ball. His first 11 runs took 14 balls, eight of them off edges. By the time he was done, though, the opposition captain Rishabh Pant didn’t look happy with his bowlers, the bowlers didn’t look happy with the fielders, and the fielders looked sick of the leather hunt. Buttler went from 11 off 14 to end up with 116 in 65 balls, hitting nine sixes, one of them 107m long.

Rajasthan Royals lost their sixth toss in seven matches, the joint-worst luck at the toss, but that was the last thing they lost as Buttler’s third century of the season set them up for the highest score of this IPL, 222, which they defended eventually comfortably.

It came down to 36 required off the final over, but Rovman Powell hit the first three for sixes. The third of those was a high no-ball. The batter and the dugout immediately remonstrated to get a no-ball call, but it wasn’t called on the field. Then the dugout stopped play, insisting on the third umpire’s intervention, but the ICC playing conditions allow the third umpire to come in only if it is a foot-fault no-ball or if there has been a dismissal off the ball. Obed McCoy made a comeback after the break to bowl two dots and get Powell off the last ball."

Ugly scenes as Rishabh Pant sends off Pravin Amre onto the field after threatening to call his players off. What has happened is this: with 36 runs required off the last over, Rovman Powell has hit the first three for sixes. The third one is a high full toss, which has not been called a no-ball on the field, but the DC dugout is remonstrating immediately. The replay shows it is touch and go, possibly high, but not blatantly so. But the laws and the rules say you can check no-balls only if a wicket has fallen of the ball. DC want it referred. Eventually play resumes.

Obed McCoy then regroups to bowl two dots and a wicket to end the game. Pant keeps having a chat with RR players, and laughing while he does so, but will be interesting to see what their point of view is. RR have won again despite losing their sixth toss of the season.

The 19th over from Prasidh Krishna has sealed it. Powell doesn't even see strike. Krishna goes round the wicket, has a strong boundary ring on the off side and keeps bowling wide.

He has struggled so far, he has been held back behind Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur this game, but Rovman Powell has finally arrived, hitting two sixes off Trent Boult in the 18th. That 15-run over leaves DC 36 to get in the last two. Still only 3% favourites to win.

Shardul Thakur is looking to come back for a tight second, Sanju Samson stands there casually, possibly giving him the impression the throw is not coming at his end. When the throw arrives, Samson is lightning quick to break the wicket. And the throw is accurate from Riyan Parag. They are 162 for 6 now in 16 overs. RR are 97% to win now.

In the 12th over, bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal drops one skier from Rishabh Pant, but Krishna keeps hitting the hard length, drawing a second massive top edge. Devdutt Padikkal takes this one to make it 124 for 4. Their win probability is down to 7% now.

The 10th over thwarts the turnaround. R Ashwin concedes no boundary in the first five balls, and Prithvi Shaw picks the carrom ball last ball and goes over cover. However, he picks out the sweeper cover, and it's 99 for 3 in 10 overs. That brings them down to being 6% favourites to win.

That's the ninth over, bowled by Obed McCoy. DC had to go after him, and he didn't help matters by missing wildly with a back-of-the-hand slower ball, which didn't even land on the cut strip. DC's win probability has gone up from 3% to 11% after that over.

After the quick start, there hasn't been much to hit for DC batters. R Ashwin bowls one in the powerplay for the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan, and Yuzvendra Chahar follows up with a five-run seventh over. At 60 for 2 in seven overs, DC have only a 7% chance to win.

As expected Prithvi Shaw and David Warner get off to a quick start, but in the fifth over Prasidh Krishna gets David Warner . He is backing away to make room, but Krishna follows him. Warner looks to steer it fine with an open face, but ends up edging it to the keeper. It is a big deflection but Warner goes back to re-marking his guard as if nothing has happened. Everybody else, including most importantly the umpire, knows he is out. DC 48 for 1 in five overs. Their win probability is 6%

... but same scores. Earlier, Jos Buttler was unsure of what Khaleel Ahmed was doing, but managed to get two outside edges. In this innings, Prithvi Shaw nails the first two balls for fours, but ends up finding the fielders in the rest of the over. Scores after first over: RR 8 for 0, DC 8 for 0.

222 for 2, that is. Sanju Samson ends the innings with a six that takes him to 46 off 19. Just the innings you need after the start Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal gave them. It was apparent the DC players lost their patience with each other towards the end. Rishabh Pant didn't look happy with his bowlers, the bowlers didn't look happy with the fielders, and the fielders were sick of chasing leather.

Padikkal says he looked to give the strike to Buttler early on, but once they were both in rhythm, they went both barrels. He says 180 to 190 was par, and that with their bowling they should be able to defend 222. Our Forecaster says they are 92% favourites to do so.

After the excellent 16th over, Khaleel Ahmed is taken apart by Sanju Samson in the 18th. That last dot is a drop, a sitter spilled by Khaleel himself. RR 188 for 1 in 18. Projected score 213. Shardul Thakur, with figures of 2-1-9-0, is not going to bowl out.

Jos Buttler has brought up his third century this season, this time in the 16th over. He is 101 off 58 at the end of 16 overs. This has been an excellent over from Khaleel Ahmed, though: just four runs and a wicket. It has brought the projected score down to 201.

Khaleel Ahmed comes back with a late swinging delivery to trap Devdutt Padikkal in front for 54 off 35. That leaves RR at 155 for 1 in 15.1 overs at the time of the second timeout. Jos Buttler at the other end is unbeaten on 99 off 56. Their projected score is 209.

Jos Buttler has more runs by a fair margin but Devdutt Padikkal has the higher strike-rate today. His fifty comes off a square cut off Axar Patel, just the 31st ball he has faced. They are 137 for 0 in 14 overs. Projected score is 200.

A strange decision to bowl all four from Lalit Yadav with the batters in such mood. The main spinners have bowled just three overs between them in the first 13. And it's not like Lalit hasn't been taken for many. His last two have cost 35. It's 128 for 0 in 13 overs. Projected score 200.

The tide has turned after a slow start. In the 10th over, Jos Buttler hits Shardul Thakur for a mammoth 107m six. In the 11th he gets a low full toss from Lalit Yadav, which he drives wide of long-off for a four that brings up his fifty in 36 balls. RR 91 for 0 in 10.1 overs.

That's two overs bowled by DC's best spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Devdutt Padikkal took care of Axar, and Jos Buttler went after Kuldeep. As a result, RR are 78 for 0 after nine overs. Porjected score is up at 176 now.

He gets enough full balls from Khaleel Ahmed in the sixth over, and hits two sixes to get going. Jos Buttler is 26 off 20 at the end of the powerplay. RR 44 for 0. Projected score 160.

"Jos Buttler thrives off short balls from pacers: he scored 94 off 36 balls playing the pull and the hook against pacers in the previous three seasons of the IPL, without getting dismissed even once. Off balls pitching short and short-of-a-length, Buttler made 199 runs off 140 (SR of 142) and was dismissed only twice.

Buttler likes to drive through the line too, and also gets a lot of his run playing the slog to midwicket. However, he does get dismissed more often playing these shots. In the last-three seasons, he was dismissed nine times against pacers playing the drives and slog. He averaged 25.44 from these shots and had a strike rate of 169.6. Though pacers are likely to go for more runs allowing him to play these shots, they also have a better chance of dismissing him. Off fuller length from pacers, Buttler has been dismissed 12 dismissals at an average of 30.25.

Not surprisingly then, pacers have tried bowling on fuller lengths to Buttler this season. However, the pitches this season so far have had pace on them, and have encouraged batters to play on the up. This has perhaps played into Buttler’s hands: before this match, he had scored 132 runs off 61 balls playing drives and slog and had been dismissed only two times (strike rate of 216 v 169.6 earlier, average of 61 v 30.25 earlier). When pacers have bowled on a length or have gone fuller Buttler has made 193 runs at a strike rate of 165 and has been dismissed only twice. Teams could try pulling back the length a bit when bowling to him, but by not much, for they’ll still end up getting biffed."

Who has the best average and economy rate among Delhi Capitals bowlers this IPL? Lalit Yadav, who has taken taken four wickets for 58 runs in 10 overs. He has bowled another quiet over inside the popwerplay to leave RR 12 for 0 in three overs.

What a first over full of mind games. Jos Buttler knows Khaleel Ahmed can swing the new ball back, but Khaleel has kept taking the ball away from him. Not just the angle, but slight seam movement too. After one goes, after two go, Buttler begins to guess which one will be the inswinger. By fourth ball he is convinced it is coming, but it seams away too, and flies off the outside edge over slip. Again, wary of the inswinger, Buttler pushes at the last ball, and gets an edge between slip and short third man for four. Superb over but reads eight for none.

"Toss is not in my control but it is going out of my control much more than I like," says Sanju Samson after losing his sixth toss of this IPL out of seven. That's the joint-worst luck along with Punjab Kings. However, Punjab's has been a joint effort between Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan. Samson has done this all by himself.

So, as expected, Delhi Capitals have asked Rajasthan Royals to bat first. Both the sides are unchanged.
