backs away and slices the ball towards third man, look at that smile on Sangakkara's face. He's beaming!
Chargers vs Warriors, 35th match at Pune, IPL, Apr 26 2012 - Match Result
11.40 pm It's taken seven games, but Deccan Chargers have finally earned points this season without benevolence from the weather. They owe it to Cameron White really, he was the only batsman in the entire match to convert a start and play a substantial innings. Several batsmen made the sort of start White did, striking at around a run-a-ball, but they fell before they could accelerate.
Pune Warriors remain sixth in the points table, with eight points after nine games. Deccan Chargers are still last, but with three points from seven games.
There was just no intent in Warriors' chase, until a stage when it would have been ridiculous not to have intent. Ryder, Pandey, Ganguly, Uthappa and Samuels played rudderless innings and by the time they got out, the task was too great for the lower order. Ashish Reddy, playing his first game for Deccan, had a good match, dismissing Uthappa and Samuels in the 14th over. That was when the match swung Deccan's way.
Sesi: "DC fans who believe in whatchamacallit (I forgot that belief word just now) now start hoping that Steyn will be out every match."
The presentation is about to begin ...
Sangakkara: "Finally on the board, a great effort, especially by Cameron White with the bat ... we played Rusty for a purpose and he was outstanding. And young Ashish Reddy played well." Sangakkara says getting through the first six overs of the defence with four overs of spin was crucial.
Ganguly: "As I said at the toss I would have fielded, we gave away 15-20 runs extra. We did not have partnerships, someone needed to carry on." Should Steve smith have come it earlier? Ganguly says Pune will have to take a look at that.
The Man of the Match is Cameron White. Surprise, surprise. "It's a good feeling to get a win, been under pressure as a team. Hopefully it's the start of a few wins in a row. Couple of cramps in the calves but I'm okay."
That's all we have for you today. Thank you for all your emails. Have a good night. Cheers.
length ball around off stump, lofted inside out over cover, it falls safely in the deep
now he charges and swings, gets beaten by a pacy short of a length ball
another short ball, Kumar stays in his crease and chips it over the keeper to the third man boundary
Well that's that, Deccan will win unless there is an extra.
Thomas charges and then tries to cut, he gets beaten by the short ball once again. Thomas continues running but Manhas doesn't want to steal the bye. Parthiv scored a direct hit with his under-arm throw and Thomas is run out
Thomas backs away to cut a short of a length ball. Gony followed the batsman and cramped him for room, and beat the bat
Deccan have 26 to defend in the final over. Surely Gony won't do a Chawla, or a Kohli?
well that isn't a terrific finish for Theron, he's missed his yorker length, allowing Manhas to get under the ball and smash it straight over the sight screen. Tremendous hit, but probably too late
ah I forgot there was a wide, one more to go ...
terrific finish to the over, another yorker, dug out behind square
clears his front foot and slogs through midwicket, to the fielder in the deep
that's too wide outside off stump
in the blockhole on middle stump, Thomas manages to keep it out, running after the ball rolls towards the keeper
a slower ball outside off stump, the batsman had finished swinging across the line by the time the ball reached him
in the blockhole around off stump, driven to cover
The penultimate over. The poisoned chalice. Theron will bowl it. He went for 18 in his previous over.
hit with power down the ground for a single
played on the leg side
is that caught? Is that six? Duminy's signalled that it's a six. Manhas backed away, made room and slogged the ball high over the bowler's head. Duminy ran to his left from long-on, judged the catch well and jumped to take it. As he landed, though, his foot touched the line. He then threw the ball to Harris, who had run from long-off. Harris caught it, but Duminy knew it was six and said so
tries to cut but gets a bottom edge into the ground towards short third man
in the blockhole outside off stump, squeezed out to the man behind point
clipped off the pads behind square
Theron's over has ended horribly. Manhas has powered the last ball over Duminy at long-on. It was a length ball and Manhas got under it nicely. Pune are not out of this yet.
Well Theron was expensive and a bit wayward in that over, but he picked up the key wicket for Deccan Chargers.
