defended clumsily but that will do for Pune, they have won by 29 runs on a slow Wankhede pitch.
Warriors vs MI, 3rd match at Mumbai, IPL, Apr 06 2012 - Match Result
Presentation:
Ganguly: The pitch was dry, thought it would turn, good batting by Steven Smith. Good start alright, but it is a long tournament, 15 more matches to go.
Harbhajan: We did not rotate the strike in the middle of the innings, we did not get a good start, all credit to Dinda and Kartik. Pune was the better side.
Steven Smith has been named the man-of-the-match. Tough start, we lost a few early wickets, Robin and I decided to stay on and try and get to 140. Good job by the bowlers to defend the low score. Good way to start the tournament and we hope to carry on the momentum and it was great to play in Mumbai for the first time.
An excellent win for the Pune Warriors India, beating Mumbai Indians in Mumbai after the clinical performance shown by them against Chennai Super Kings.
Ganguly was happy to bat first after losing the toss and that proved to be one of the differences. Chasing was going to be difficult on this slow Wankhede turner and that is exactly what happened, as Mumbai Indians lost three early wickets. Without any momentum at the start of the innings, the Mumbai Indians innings stuttered away and never found their way out of trouble. Credit to Uthappa and Smith's 30s when Pune batted and Dinda's four-wicket haul.
30 off 1 needed. Dinda on four wickets.
pitched up again and he drives to the covers for no run. Can Dinda get his fifth wicket?
gone, plumb in front of the wickets! Harbhajan went for an expansive slog over the mid-wicket region, but he misses and that one hits the back-foot.
yorker-length and Harbhajan smashes it back to long-on. Refuses the single again.
slower one and that is spanked away by Harbhajan Singh between long-on and mid-wicket. Too little, too late.
Full-toss and Harbhajan tries to smack it away but can only manage to get it to long-on. Refuses the single.
Dinda to bowl the last over.
bouncer to finish off his spell! Ojha lets that one go to the wicket-keeper.
gone! Caught-behind! That was pitched up to the batsman and Malinga went for a drive, got only the outside-edge and he is easily taken by Uthappa.
They need a four every ball and then they need some more.
yorker and edged away from the bottom of the bat to the fence.
this time he finally gets bat on to it but only a single to the extra-cover fielder.
fullish on the off-stump and that's very well-bowled. Harbhajan fails to connect.
swings hard and misses.
Wayne Parnell will bowl the 19th
and another one in he blockhole to finish off his third over. Dug out by Harbhajan and he will keep strike with that single. He has conceded 13 from his three.
full, on the off-stump and Malinga swings. Gets the bottom of the bat and it trickles down to long-on for a run.
Lasith Malinga's in.
yorker-length and Harbhajan drills it to the long-on region for a single.
that is an excellent catch by Ferguson at mid-wicket as Franklin tries to pull the ball away. In the process, he does not hit the middle of the bat, which also flies out of his hands. He has probably not played a stroke in anger for a long time and it showed there...
slower one outside the off-stump. Harbhajan was shaping up for the yorker and he had to check his shot and drive it away to the deep cover region for only a run.
full-pitched and dug out well for a single. Oh but wait, there is an overthrow and Harbhajan dives hard into his crease to get back for two. Ganguly is furious.
Unless Mumbai Indians get a miracle of the proportions of what Lasith Malinga conjured up in that Champions League T20 game against Chennai last season, this match is headed only one way.
shorter one and Harbhajan tries to go for a pull but mistimes the shot.
Harbhajan tries to drill it through the covers but it is straight to the fielder.
