and Gauti finishes it off the way he set it up.Chips it over midwicket and runs through for two, with beads of sweat dripping all over the pitch from his forehead.
CSK vs Daredevils, 50th match at Chennai, IPL, Apr 15 2010 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Daredevils won by 6 wickets (with 8 balls remaining)
I daresay this was one of the best innings in the IPL! Gauti has overcome his poor form, overcome his run-out epidemic, that too on a day when he had to run a lot. What's more, he has overcome a bowling and fielding unit in form, and most importantly overcome the almost other-worldly conditions in Chennai. Well played!
By taking this game so close, CSK have ensured their net run rate is still in reasonably good health. It is +0.270, which is better than Delhi and Deccan. Delhi have moved to third on the table and will breathe a humongous sigh of relief. But they will know, they can still be displaced if they lose their final match, and if Deccan wins both its games, while Chennai puts it past Punjab. Well... the possibilities are STILL alive. Bitter disappointment for the hosts, after winning four on the trot at home, they were really outdone by Delhi's bowlers. Great heart from Bollinger and Ashwin, but without Murali CSK looked thin on resources in the latter part of the chase. Hang on for the presentation.
Sreekumar: "That is called "sweat equity"! Well done Gauti..!"
Dhoni: "They got part-timers like Sehwag and Dilshan, we did not have that option and that made all the difference. We should have batted better. We will look to win our final game, Deccan needs to lose one and we need to win one. We are still in it."
Gautam Gambhir is the Man of the Match, no surprises there. He's not pleased with the early wickets. "The top order should have been more responsible, it is all about finishing the job.. hope they are more responsible in the next game. We never thought of run rate etc., we were only looking at two points. NEVER told anyone in the dressing room to finish it quickly."
Well, Gauti has every right to be annoyed, his star-studded top order left him to score all those runs in the hot and humid steam room that is the MA Chidambaram stadium, but then aal izz well that ends well. Delhi have got the two points in the kitty and arrested a huge slide, this win will give them great confidence going into their final outing. They look good for a third consecutive entry into the IPL semis.
That's it from us. Fascinating low-scoring scrap, it would have been even better if CSK had one more accomplished bowler. On behalf of scorer Binoy George and the rest of the crew, this is Nitin Sundar signing off. Cheers!
cuts away the slower ball, in the air but safely over point. Two to win
driven straight to Haydos at cover, who fumbles and recovers. Dot.
back of a length outside off and Gauti can't work it away
full and wide outside off, Manhas can't connect with his swing. 4 to win off 12.
full on offstump, tapped to third man for a single.
Fifty to Gautam Gamhir! Picked the short of length ball and pulled it between mid on and midwicket for four. An innings worth its weight in unobtainium!
backs away and works it down from outside off to third man
full pitched on middle and leg, driven straight to mid on
full toss from Bolly, Gambhir pulls it away, not enough muscle left on him to get that to the fence, but he runs through for three
keeps a little low, still manages to cut it away to point
short again, and he rocks back to cut it away, he's done this all day
up and over, inside out, over the head of cover fielder and through for four! Delhi are winning this, and their captain deserves all the credit.
Gautam Gambhir, take a bow! He has kept his cool under pressure, ticking the singles and now he's turning it on. Picked the short ball and pulled it again nicely to midwicket
cut away from middle and leg towards the sweeper
52 runs added by these two in 54 balls. Priceless.
and another four, you can feel the weight being taken off the pressure cooker by these two! Marginally short, he latched on to it like a limpet and pulled it in front of square. See you later!
looking to cut off the stumps, goes straight to point
works it away to to square leg to give it to Gauti
