shovelled off the pads, that'll do it! Scorchers win by seven wickets and return to the top of the BBL standings
Hurricanes vs Scorchers, 46th Match at Perth, BBL, Jan 18 2023 - Match Result
Scorchers won by 7 wickets (with 15 balls remaining)
7.45pm: Business as usual for Perth Scorchers as they rack up their ninth win of the season and continue to tussle for the lead with Sydney Sixers. The bowlers all did their bit in restricting Hurricanes to a middling total, and Aaron Hardie's career-best 90 not out from 62 balls saw them home with barely a hiccup. Hardie and Josh Inglis put on a 127-run stand for the third wicket, and that pretty much sealed the deal.
Hardie is understandably Player of the Match: "It was an awesome game, great to come away with a win. [We took] lots of wickets early but their tail came hard and got a total on the board. Nice to go out and chase them down. Love batting at No. 3, something I've done growing up. Being able to come out and go from ball one, absolutely loving it. [Inglis partnership] We knew we'd be able to rebuild, gave ourselves a bit of time. Got a few boundaries away early, which keeps the pressure off."
And that's a wrap from the Australian west, but there's plenty more cricket going on - Shubman Gill has scored a double-hundred in the Hyderabad ODI against NZ (you can watch that game in the UK on YouTube) and there's action from the SA20 and ILT20, too. Go get some! Bye
slower ball on off stump, Turner dabs it out to cover point
full on leg stump, flicked out to deep square leg
No hundred for Hardie, then. But still a match to win
goes full, 143kph and aiming for the bootstraps as Turner makes room. Skips through to the keeper
Ashton Turner walks in at No. 5, just six needed for victory
short ball, edged behind! Inglis falls looking to uppercut a 144kph delivery. Stepped away, aiming to get this chase done, but just got a tickle through to Wade
reverse-scooped this time! Fifty for Inglis! Full on the stumps and he jumps around to ramp the ball away to deep third
"That's it mate, farm the strike - century still on the cards here!" chirps Jake. Although that shot from Inglis won't help his cause...
slapped over backward point! Inglis opens up and carves Meredith's pace to the rope
fired into the blockhole, dug out through square leg for one
slower ball, helped away over backward square leg! Hardie continues to plough on serenely. Could still get a hundred here, if he does the maths
Just 19 needed from the last four overs. Meredith will bowl the second with fielding restrictions on
full on leg stump, clipped into the midwicket region
murdered flat down the ground! Power from Hardie, as he waits for the slower bumper and clobbers it cross-batted over long-on!
Rio: "How many more performances before selectors finally see potential in Aaron Hardie in Aussie limited overs side?" He was being talked of as a Test candidate earlier in the summer. Looks to be an impressive package
pitched up wide of off, Inglis goes aerial inside to out for a single to deep cover
straighter, worked into the leg side
gets the wide yorker going, dot ball
Hardie is on a new T20 career best
touch short and blapped through midwicket! Imperious from Hardie as he stays still and mashes a boundary off the first ball of the Surge
And Scorchers now take the Power Surge. Ellis to bowl
Century stand for this pair. Scorchers gunning down the target with ease right now
jabbed away past short third, slung down full and wide but Inglis manages to squirt it off the toe for four more
slapped down to long-on
pushed in with the arm, Inglis works through midwicket
there's a scream of "caaaaaaaatttttccchhh!" as Inglis slices up and over cover, but it lands safely
dragged down, splatted over deep midwicket! Seizes on the length and rocks back to cream a pull beyond the ropes. Breaks the shackles with a boundary
