Finishes off with a boundary, pulling a short ball behind square, but it won't matter as the Melbourne Stars register a thumping win
Stars vs Hurricanes, 4th Match at Melbourne, BBL, Dec 16 2022 - Match Result
D'Arcy Short has broken the record for playing the most T20s (73) for HH, going past George Bailey
8.34pm That will be it for this match, but there's more BBL action on at the Sydney Showground Stadium where the Adelaide Strikers are taking on Sydney Thunder. This is Abhimanyu signing off on behalf of Alex Malcolm, Ranjith P and Chandan Duorah. Goodnight!
8.31pm Well, that was a comprehensive performance from the Melbourne Stars. Joe Clarke's brilliant unbeaten 101 set them up with a big total before the bowlers ensured the Hurricanes never got into the game. They bowled well in the Powerplay and then struck in regular intervals to keep pegging Hobart back. Stars skipper Zampa led the way with a three-wicket haul, while left-arm pacer Luke Wood also picked up three. Nathan Coulter-Nile also grabbed a couple and Trent Boult got one right at the end. The Stars will be happy to have won on a day that they honoured the late Shane Warne at the MCG. They lost their first game of the season by just one wicket in a last-ball thriller, but have bounced back very well with a commanding victory here.
Short ball on off, he comes down the track and has a swipe at it, but is beaten
Full delivery outside off again, this time driven to the fielder at extra cover
Full and wide and this time it's hit to deep backward point
And he crunches his first delivery for a boundary! Full and wide and he frees his arms and drills it through covers
Here's Meredith
What a stunning catch! Banged in short and he looked to back away and cut it but gets a thick edge behind point. Hinchcliffe, on as a sub, runs to his left from short third and takes a brilliant diving effort
Boult to bowl the final over
Zampa bowls out taking three wickets for 27. Not a bad return from the skipper!
Full and wide, drilled to mid-on
Goes across to this length ball outside off and manages to scoop it, but only just short of backward square
Length ball on middle, can't connect with the pull
Zampa almost has a fourth! Dooley goes across to try and paddle it fine but misses as Zampa loops this up on middle. Hit on the back leg and umpire gives it immediately. Dooley reviews and there was clearly no bat on that but it's umpire's call on impact and missing wickets!
Good catch by Boult! Ellis can't get this cleanly as he looks to go aerial off a length ball on middle and Trent Boult does well to run to his left from midwicket and takes it with ease in the end
Goes across to this length delivery outside off but misses his sweep. Comes off the body and goes towards short third
Nathan Ellis comes out to bat and Zampa will bowl out here
Chipped to extra cover. Looked to flick this full delivery off his toes but gets a leading edge that loops up straight to the substitute fielder O'Connell
Muscled over long-off! Full delivery just outside off and David just uses his long levers to power it down the ground. There was no fielder there in the deep, but would not have mattered even if there had been one
Short ball going down leg, swivels and helps it on to deep backward square
Length ball sits up and Paris slaps it down the ground, but mid-off is able to run and cut it off before it reached the rope
Banged in short, he looks to ramp it but misses. Beaten by the pace
Joel Paris is in at No. 8
And instantly sends Neesham packing! Looks to smash this full delivery outside off and ends up skying it to mid-off
Luke Wood returns
15 off the first Power Surge over
Slashed over backward point. Short and wide and David doesn't miss out.
Full on middle, he paddles it to short fine and they get a single
