10.36pm Nathan Ellis is Player of the Match. "It was an unpredictable game, talking about taking the surge later, then chaos from there on in. Any time we tried to put the foot down, we lost a wicket. Frustrated for the guys, we haven't put together a full game, but we'll take the wins when we get them."

I've seen enough for one night... here's the state of the table. Hobart blew the chance to nudge their NRR back up towards parity, but with eight points on the board, they are definitely back with the pack in the race to the play-offs. Stars, by contrast, are now drifting away. From Miller, Alan and Thilak, good night!

10.28pm Well, a win is a win... and a handsome NRR boost too in the end. But goodness me. 100 runs between Jewell (70) and Crawley (30), and then a lower-order shambles. Hatcher's 3 for 25 set up a semi-fightback, but ultimately Stars paid the price for a different sort of poor batting display. That was not a spectacle that deserves to be remembered for long after tonight's formalities are wrapped up!

Jimbo341: "From a tournament advancement perspective, better to win 8 down with 14 balls left than 3 down with 3 balls left. It didn't go as planned, but correct approach from the Canes" That's one way of putting it. I guess the coach might put it down to "execution"...

Jack Dyer: "This game shows the state of the Bash these days. Second rate competition with second rate quality. And will only get worse with the proliferation of these new T20 leagues"

Hamza: "Unnecessary thrilling finish. Not good for the Hurricanes though, this was meant to be their nrr lifting result."

Wood to Ellis, FOUR runs

inside-edge, inches past leg stump! Away to fine leg, for the only fitting way for Hobart to seal one of the most inept run-chases I've ever seen.

Hello skipper. Your ship is sinking. All sorts of manoeuvres in the field now. Three huge balls for Wood

Wood to Asif Ali, OUT

drilled at mid-off! Inept cricket from Hobart! Full length, slower ball, looking to finish in a rush, and simply holes out to leave his side in genuine peril now!

Asif Ali c Rogers b Wood 9 (9b 0x4 1x6 19m) SR: 100

Sam: "These wickets and their impact on run rate may well be the difference in qualifying for last four for the hurricanes."

finally, a proper shot! Ali sits back to the short ball, in-between length, and hoisted high over square leg

well bowled! Round the wicket, tight line into the right-hander, nip and bounce, rips over the bails!

Jazz: "Just horrible, horrible cricket from the hurricanes here. It's 9 from 19! Hit some singles!" It's been a ghastly standard throughout the match, to be brutally honest!

16.6
Coulter-Nile to Andrews, no run

tight lines on the back foot, blocked into the off side

They've lost three for two... and they've three wickets left!

16.5
W
Coulter-Nile to Faheem, OUT

hacked off a good length, and another goes! This is truly abject from Hobart! A rush to get over the line, and they are giving their wickets away like T-shirts from a launcher into the crowd! Mid-on hurtles in, grabs low to the ground, and there's still nine runs needed to win!

Faheem Ashraf c Rogers b Coulter-Nile 0 (2b 0x4 0x6 5m) SR: 0

Dave: "Unbelievable that the canes could lose this" Inconceivable...

16.4
Coulter-Nile to Faheem, no run

tight line from round the wicket, clipped to mid-on, the shy comes in to keep Ali honest. All happening!

16.3
W
Coulter-Nile to Owen, OUT

inside-edged drive, and another goes! Length delivery, nip off the seam, loose and ugly from Owen, back goes his off stump, and there's just the beginnings of a glimmer for Stars... surely not!

Hatcher to DJM Short, OUT

It's academic now! Short's stumps get splattered by the yorker, right up to the blockhole as he shaped to leg. Wickets are the only thing that can save Stars now... and they have five of them

short, and a huge appeal for a catch! Short ball, back of a length. A floppy cut off the back foot, but they've burnt their review...
