An offspinner who became a quick bowler, African-born and Oxford educated Simon Corlett was in the Worksop XI for four years and a regular in the Oxford side in his second and third summer. He won a Blue in 1971 when he helped Oxford cling on for a draw by batting out the last hour; there were no such heroics the following year when they lost by an innings. His 25 wickets for Oxford cost almost 50 each. After university he moved to Ireland for who he qualified to play by residency. In 15 first-class matches between 1974 and 1987 he took 54 wickets at 20.37 and in all he played 73 matches, scoring 1045 runs at 17.41 and taking 233 wickets at 23.12. In latter years he became president of the Irish board.
