Seamer Ruaidhri Smith had a notable first-team debut for Glamorgan in 2013 when he dismissed Kent's Brendon Nash with his first ball in first-class cricket. Smith was born in Glasgow and played for Scotland Under-19s while at Shrewsbury School, scoring 145 on debut. His bow in professional cricket was for Scotland in the 40-over competition in 2013 by which time he was playing for Glamorgan Second XI.

Progress has been steady since his dramatic entrance. In 2014, he struck his maiden Championship fifty against Gloucestershire, whilst in 2015 he returned career-best bowling figures of 3 for 32 against Derbyshire at Chesterfield. Having completed a degree in mathematics at Bristol University in 2016, the highlight of an injury-hit Glamorgan season was a hat-trick against the Pakistan A tourists at Newport. Scotland awarded him his first two ODI caps against Afghanistan in Edinburgh in 2016. An abdominable tear then severely disrupted the following season.

Smith marked his 24th birthday in 2018 with Glamorgan's most economical four-wicket haul in T20 cricket - 4 for 6 - as he dismissed Nick Gubbins, Stevie Eskinazi, England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan and Ireland's Paul Stirling in an inspired spell at Richmond, but he struggled for form the following year.
