Khaled Ahmed was a tape-tennis ball specialist when his friend, and future first-class teammate, Imran Ali Enam, took him to Rana Mia's cricket academy in Sylhet. Within a couple of years, Khaled made his first-class debut for Sylhet Division, and formed a fast bowling battery alongside Ebadat Chowdhury. The trio, incidentally, took part in the 2015-16 fast bowling hunt conducted by the BCB.

Khaled's first big break came during the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League, when he played for Dhaka Dynamites. But he took only two wickets in four games. A few months later, during the 2017-18 Dhaka Premier League, Khaled took 17 wickets at 34.70. He made the BCB's High Performance side in the 2018 summer, quickly earning a call-up to the Bangladesh A side, and took 10 wickets in the five-match unofficial ODI series against Ireland A.

Khaled's call-up to the senior team, for the Test series against Zimbabwe, coincided with his maiden 10-for in first-class cricket, which also helped Sylhet to a rare win in the National Cricket League.
