A combative allrounder, Jordan Thompson flourished during the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020, scoring 234 runs and taking 15 wickets in Yorkshire's five North Group matches. He fell two runs short of a maiden hundred, against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, and finished the season by claiming his first five-wicket haul - having hit 62 in the first innings - to help secure victory over Leicestershire at Headingley.

He cemented his status as one of the club's go-to players with more than 40 first-class wickets in each of the 2021 and 2022 seasons, while his displays in the 2022 Vitality Blast were central to the team's progression to Finals Day - particularly his nerveless final over in Yorkshire's one-run win over Surrey in the quarter-finals, and his 18-ball 50 in their semi-final loss to Lancashire.

Thompson had made his debut for Yorkshire's 2nd XI in 2013, aged 16, but did not get a chance in the first team until 2018, when he made nine appearances in the T20 Blast. The following summer, he scored 736 runs and took 33 wickets for the seconds, leading to a Championship bow against Surrey at Guildford, where he dismissed England Test batsmen Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick for his first first-class wickets. At the start of that season's Blast campaign, he crunched a 26-ball fifty against Derbyshire.

Having being diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic as a teenager, Thompson manages the condition alongside trying to raise awareness for Diabetes UK.
