Chris Swan, the Gold Coast swing bowler, was called to help out Queensland's injury-hit squad for the Pura Cup match against New South Wales in 2006-07 and didn't disappoint. On debut, he claimed 2 for 85 and 3 for 56 in the 74-run loss. Despite the strong performance, he was not required again and missed out on a contract at the end of the season. However, he returned for four Pura Cup contests and three FR Cup fixtures the following summer, which were highlighted by figures of 4 for 24 against Western Australia on one-day debut. It was enough for Swan to receive a full state deal, which he combined with work as a pest controller, and he soon developed into a leader of the attack.

In 2008-09 he was a fixture in the Sheffield Shield until succumbing to a groin injury and missing the final. There were 24 first-class breakthroughs - as well as a top score of 76 - and he was also an asset in the FR Cup. He accounted for 13 batsmen and produced a key all-round performance to help the Bulls to the title. Last summer, having recovered from groin surgery, his batting was valuable too. He was part of a record last-wicket stand of 57 with Luke Feldman that earned a Shield victory over Victoria. His collection finished at 315 runs at 28.82 in eight games, with a best of 82 against Tasmania. Not bad for a No.10. With the ball he was also impressive, grabbing 31 victims at 25.58 in the competition, including a maiden five-wicket haul against Tasmania. A Queensland junior, he was part of the state's under-age, colts and 2nd XI squads.
