Opening batsman Andri Berenger holds the distinction of being chosen to represent two different countries in World Cups: he played as a wicketkeeper-batsman in the Sri Lanka Under-19 side at the 2010 Youth World Cup in New Zealand and, five years later, was picked by UAE for the full World Cup.

An alumnus of the prestigious St. Peter's College in Colombo, Berenger's formative experiences in cricket actually came in the UAE, where he spent the early part of his youth and represented their U-15 side at the Gulf Cup in Bahrain, his talent as a batsman and wicketkeeper readily apparent. A sporting scholarship took him to St. Peter's, and in 2008 he made his first-class debut for Seeduwa Raddoluwa Cricket Club. He moved from there to Sinhalese Sports Club, and then on to Colombo Cricket Club, but was unable to force his way into national contention. A move back to UAE followed, and he played his first game for the full national side against Western Australia in September 2014. A month later he cracked an unbeaten 77 in UAE's win over Pakistan A in Dubai, and added two more half-centuries against Afghanistan in the lead-up to the 2015 World Cup.
