Andrea Agathangelou takes his nationality from his Cypriot father but looks to South Africa, his mother's country, for his cricketing heritage, and has an impressive record in South African provincial cricket. In 24 first-class matches for North West, he has scored more than 1,800 runs at 39.15, including four centuries and a top score of 158.

He joined Lancashire on a scholarship in 2010 as a 20-year-old allrounder - he can keep wicket as well as bat in the top order and bowl leg spin - and signed a professional contract a year later after some eye-catching form in the Second XI, in particular a four-day friendly against Somerset in which he made scores of 129 and 70 not out and took 10 wickets. He made his senior debut for Lancashire in the County Championship match against Somerset at Liverpool in August 2012. He moved to Leicestershire and was released in 2015.
