This edition was published at 1/6, the first price rise since the first issue in 1864, and the last Almanack for five seasons which had any meaningful cricket to report. The editor wrote that he hoped "no attempt will be made to close the game down entirely" - but his hopes were soon dashed. The onset of war overshadowed the book, with the general gloom compounded by the suicide of Albert Trott. Surrey won a Championship curtailed by the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914, and England's proposed tour of Australia in 1915-16 was cancelled. One positive was the celebration of the MCC's centenary - but it was a rare upbeat moment in a grim volume.
