Final, Harare

Australia v South Africa, 2014-15

At Harare, September 6, 2014. South Africa won by six wickets. Toss: South Africa.
South Africa were surprisingly dominant in their first triumph over Australia in a standalone oneday final. Sluggish surfaces had forced the fast bowlers in this tournament into hibernation but, presented at last with a responsive strip in front of a full house, Steyn produced destructive reverse swing which none of the Australian attack could match. His four victims included Finch - middle stump uprooted - and Maxwell in successive balls, and it took Faulkner and Starc to add some meat with a stand of 71. South Africa's charge to victory was held up only by Parnell's surprise promotion to No. 4, which yielded six from 24 balls. De Villiers thrashed three boundaries in a row off Faulkner, leaving du Plessis - in search of a fourth hundred - less room for manoeuvre. He reached 96 with the scores level and two balls of a Johnson over remaining, but could only shovel a full toss into mid-on's hands. Had it gone for four, du Plessis would also have overhauled Hamilton Masakadza's record of 467 runs (made against Kenya in 2009-10) from a series of five matches or fewer. Third umpire Jeremiah Matibiri stood for the last 12 overs after Aleem Dar reported feeling unwell and was taken to hospital.
Man of the Match: D. W. Steyn. Man of the Tournament: F. du Plessis.
