2nd ODI, Harare

Australia v South Africa, 2014-15

At Harare, August 27, 2014. South Africa won by seven wickets. South Africa 4pts. Toss: South Africa.
Du Plessis, whose hundred on Test debut had memorably denied Australia victory at Adelaide in November 2012, now overcame them with his maiden one-day international century. He and de Villiers put on 206 for the third wicket - a record for South Africa against Australia and for the ground - as they methodically hunted down a target of 328. Both bowling units lacked control, but Bailey insisted it was the reprieves of de Villiers, on 78 and 85, which cost Australia the game, rather than the omission of Nathan Lyon, left out to accommodate Hughes. De Villiers was at his most audacious, scooping Faulkner for six shortly after sending one flying into the corporate boxes at the City End. Hughes provided handy support for Finch, whose fourth hundred in a year kept Australia ticking after a steady start, although Bailey was cut short on 66 when he was given out caught behind off his trouser pocket (there was no DRS in this tournament).
Man of the Match: A. B. de Villiers.
