India v Afghanistan

At Mirpur, March 5, 2014 (day/night). India won by eight wickets. India 5pts. Toss: India.
India could not reach the final, so Afghanistan might have fancied their chances of an upset in the sides' first official one-day international meeting, at an almost deserted Shere Bangla Stadium. But their batting misfired after they were put in and, even though Samiullah Shenwari made a defiant 50 down the order, a target of 160 was never going to test India. The damage was done by India's trio of spinners: Mishra, Jadeja and Ashwin bowled every over from the 12th to the 36th, a period which yielded figures of 25-3-73-7, and eventually shared eight for 82. Openers Rahane and Dhawan put on 121 inside 24 overs, and India sailed home with more than 100 balls to spare - though the result could not disguise another disappointing effort in a season that had already brought them winless tours of both South Africa and New Zealand.
Man of the Match: R. A. Jadeja.
