England v South Africa, 2012

Sam Peters

At Manchester, September 10 (floodlit). No result. Toss: England.

The latest city to have a game of cricket wrecked by rain was Manchester, although another five balls in England's reply would have guaranteed a result in a match already reduced to nine overs a side. England would have needed a further 13 runs, assuming they lost no more wickets. Less surprising than the weather had been another top score from Amla, who hit seven of South Africa's nine fours - and would surely have won his fourth match award of the tour had it been played to a conclusion.

Attendance: 12,348.
