Sri Lanka v India, 2012

Rex Clementine

At Pallekele, August 4, 2012 (day/night). India won by 20 runs. Toss: India.

India completed a 4-1 victory, which lifted them to second in the ICC rankings. Gambhir continued his good form, then Tiwary made 65 before he and Raina fell to successive balls from Malinga, who took his 200th one-day wicket when Dhoni nicked an intended pull. Irfan Pathan, a late replacement for the tour, shone with both bat and ball. After an important cameo - he and Dhoni put on 77 in ten overs - Pathan took five wickets for only the second time, in effect ending the contest when he dismissed Perera and Mendis (for a fine 72) in his ninth over, having bagged both openers in his first spell. Sri Lanka were without Jayawardene (rested) and Sangakkara (injured), and never really recovered from the loss of Dilshan in the second over.

Man of the Match: I. K. Pathan. Man of the Series: V. Kohli.
