Sri Lanka v India, 2012

Rex Clementine

At Hambantota, July 24, 2012 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by nine wickets. Toss: India. One-day international debut: I. Udana.

India shot out of the blocks with 31 in the first three overs, as debutant left-armer Isuru Udana sent down five wides in an opening over that lasted 11 balls and cost 16. Jayawardene was forced into a double bowling change, and it paid off: Perera began with three wicket maidens - including Sehwag, to a terrific diving return catch - and would have claimed a fourth victim had Mathews not dropped Dhoni at slip. By the eighth over it was 41 for four, and the innings was done and dusted inside 34 overs, with rash shots outnumbering unplayable deliveries. Mathews and Perera took six for 33 between them, and Gambhir was last out for 65. Tharanga and Dilshan made light of the target, putting on 119 in 16.4 overs.

Man of the Match: N. L. T. C. Perera.
