Wisden
Sussex v West Indians

England v West Indies, 2012

At Hove, May 5-7. Drawn. Toss: Sussex.

Just 34 overs were possible because of rain and bad light, with no play on the first day when it was colder than the previous Christmas, though more than 2,000 turned up on the second; a beer festival offered a diversion when there was no cricket. The tourists had only 11 players available: Deonarine, Fudadin and Samuels (who had left the IPL early) were held up by visa issues, while Fidel Edwards was sidelined with back spasms. At least their top order got a brief taste of English conditions as the ball nipped around in the two sessions of just over an hour that were possible; Powell played some eye-catching off-side shots - and was attacked by a seagull.

Close of play: first day, no play; second day, West Indians 46-2 (Powell 19, Bravo 1).
