West Indies v New Zealand, 2012

Tony Cozier

At Basseterre, St Kitts, July 14, 2012. West Indies won by 24 runs. Toss: West Indies.

It was West Indies' turn to fight back from a poor start, then hold their nerve, despite Taylor's masterful hundred. Their resolve earned them their first one-day series victory - excluding those over Zimbabwe, Bangladesh or the Associates - since beating Sri Lanka in April 2008, and their first win at Warner Park in their last five attempts. Gayle was among the first three wickets which fell for 20 and, when Samuels was lbw to Nathan McCullum after hitting him for six and four in the over, West Indies were 105 for five. Pollard steadied the ship with the slowest of his seven half-centuries in the format, from 63 balls, before Sammy and Russell provided the muscle for a meaty finish. New Zealand took 63 from the mandatory powerplay but, except for Taylor - in his first innings since injuring his shoulder in the tour's opening match - the batsmen were badly stalled by Narine. The outcome was settled once Taylor, who hit five sixes, skied to point in Best's fiery final spell.

Man of the Match: S.P. Narine
