West Indies v New Zealand, 2012

Tony Cozier

At Kingston, Jamaica, July 5, 2012. West Indies won by nine wickets (D/L). Toss: West Indies.

Russell's opening burst of three for 20 in six overs and Narine's unerring control kept New Zealand down to 117 for six from their first 35. Although Watling, favouring the leg side, gave the innings late impetus, Gayle - appearing for West Indies on his home ground for the first time since June 2009 - and Dwayne Smith made mincemeat of an inadequate target in an unbroken partnership of 130. At 93 for one off 18 overs, they were 12 balls short of the 20 required to constitute a match when a fierce thunderstorm held up play for nearly two hours. On the resumption, the goal was revised to 136 from 33, and West Indies got there easily.

Man of the Match: A.D. Russell
