Swann was left to lament a "horror show" after England slipped to their lowest Twenty20 total, allowing West Indies - unrecognisable in the field from the rabble two days earlier - to square a series that had seemed beyond them. A series of lax shots by England's top order felt like sheer complacency, while four run-outs - the last three in 12 balls - betrayed blind panic as West Indies sensed their chance on a slow pitch. Their hero was Garey Mathurin, a 28-year-old slow left-arm debutant from St Lucia who gave nothing away, except to reflect later that "God works in mysterious ways". England found his accuracy scarcely more fathomable, and only Stokes came to terms with the conditions. West Indies' own batting had promised little. They scored only seven fours and two sixes, and once more faltered against England's spinners, now boosted by the addition of Scott Borthwick's perky leg-breaks. Swann persisted with Bopara, whose last two overs leaked 25, when he might have bowled himself and, although West Indies' total of 113 looked hopeless, England stooped even lower - beneath their previous nadir of 111 against South Africa at Trent Bridge in the 2009 World Twenty20.
