A middle-order meltdown - four wickets for five runs - ruined a promising position for West Indies after they had reached 192 for three in the 41st over. With Mishra collecting a career-best four for 31, the result was an inadequate total of 240, a target reduced to 183 off 37 overs following a rain break after 22. That was quickly put into perspective by a second-wicket partnership of 120 from 24 overs between Patel and Kohli, who reached 2,000 one-day international runs in his 53rd innings; only Navjot Sidhu and Sourav Ganguly, in 52, had got there more quickly for India. A facile victory was completed with 20 balls in hand. West Indies had made a positive start, only to unravel through sheer sloppiness. Most glaring were the casual stumpings of Simmons, off a leg-side wide from Pathan, and Samuels, heedlessly charging the same bowler.
