The Australians duly completed a series sweep, although Bangladesh batted with far more vigour than in the first two matches. Watson continued to pillage, and by the time he was bowled by Abdur Razzak the hundred had already been raised in ten overs. A period of stagnation followed, compounded by a curious batting order in which Ponting opened (for only the third time in 362 one- day internationals) in place of the injured Haddin, and - with the out-of-sorts White dropped - Smith came in at No. 4. Hussey reignited the innings with an 86-ball century of poise, and the free-swinging Johnson helped notch up Australia's fourth-highest total in one-day internationals. The sheer size of the chase seemed to remove Bangladeshi inhibitions. Tamim Iqbal's contribution was brief but spiky, and Imrul Kayes, Shahriar Nafees and Mahmudullah all enhanced their reputations. For the first time Clarke was placed under some pressure in the field; his predecessor Ponting was seen to add some forceful suggestions. With 20 overs remaining, Bangladesh were 177 for one, needing another 185, but the critical spell came from the debutant Victoria fast bowler James Pattinson, the younger brother of Darren, who played one Test for England in 2008. Pattinson coaxed an edge from Kayes while slowing the momentum of the innings in partnership with Smith's leg-spin.
