Tour match, England Lions v Bangladeshis

England v Bangladesh, 2010

At Derby, May 19-21, 2010. England Lions won by nine wickets. Toss: England Lions.

Cook, who had recently led England's seniors to a clean sweep in Bangladesh, guided the second string to victory with almost five sessions to spare, even if his own form fell short of his standards on that tour. Nobody else quite earned a Test place. In his first first-class match of 2010 (after one World Twenty20 outing) Bopara wound up the tail twice to finish with seven wickets, but failed with the bat on the opening day and was bowled seeking ten to win from the last over before lunch on the third. Moeen Ali completed the job in three balls after the interval. On the first afternoon, the Bangladeshis had collapsed from 136 for two to 220 all out, with Kirby dismissing three in 18 balls before Mahmudullah briefly fought back, hooking consecutive sixes off Plunkett. In a convincing all-round performance, Davies followed 81 in 88 balls - the match's highest score - with six second innings catches, three of them off Plunkett as the tourists stumbled to 86 for six. Jahurul Islam batted over three hours and last man Rubel Hossain 66 minutes, pushing the game into the third morning. A disappointed Panesar bowled two overs in the match.

Close of play: First day, England Lions 124-3 (Gale 63, Taylor 8); Second day, Bangladeshis 139-9 (Jahurul Islam 44, Rubel Hossain 3).
