In his first one-day international since November 2008, Bell seized the opportunity created by Pietersen's thigh injury to score a well-paced 84 that saw England to a comfortable, if unspectacular, victory. Bangladesh's latest defeat was compounded by injuries which deprived them of two players for the rest of the series. Raqibul Hasan marked his return to duty (he had "retired" after being omitted from the World Twenty20 squad) by compiling 76 before an Anderson yorker broke his toe; a runner arrived, but was run out in the next over. The blow was arguably Anderson's most telling contribution, and Bresnan was also too often short and wide in the opening overs. Tamim Iqbal eagerly accepted the presents on offer. Bangladesh's other injury came when wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, not wearing a helmet, was struck in the face by a ball from spinner Faisal Hossain. Mushfiqur fell to the turf in sickening fashion; after several minutes of on-field treatment, he was carried off on a stretcher. It was a rare graphic moment for those watching in 3D, an event much hyped by the host broadcaster, but the technology was ill-matched to a one-dimensional contest.
