New Zealand v West Indies 2008-09

Don Cameron

At Queenstown, December 31, 2008. No result. Toss: New Zealand.

A sudden change in the weather, from 25°C and sunshine one day to 12° and damp the next, ruined the prelude to the New Year celebrations in New Zealand's most popular tourist town. The two and a half hours' play possible before heavy rain arrived was as much a misery for the West Indian batsmen as for those swaddled in their winter clothing on the grass banks. Gayle managed one massive hit, on to the roof of the Events Centre at square leg, but otherwise it was a struggle, typified by a partnership of 60 off 96 balls between Sarwan and Marshall, before the inevitable abandonment.
