It will be remembered as the day Andrew Symonds was racially abused, but it was actually one in which he had little work to do, as a skilful display of swing bowling at extreme pace from Johnson routed India. He put the ball in the right places for his first international five-for, and was backed up by some exceptional wicketkeeping from Gilchrist, who made six dismissals in a one-day innings for the fifth time (four other keepers have managed it once). India were in tatters at 43 for five, and all hope disappeared when Tendulkar, who top-scored with 47, was beaten by a peach from Lee that moved away and took the outside edge. The tail wagged to lift India to 148, but that only gave Australia's batsmen a chance to boost their averages. Gilchrist thrashed 79, including three sixes in one Kartik over, as Australia sailed to an unbeatable 3-1 series lead.
