India v Pakistan 2007-08

Anand Vasu

At Guwahati, November 5, 2007. India won by five wickets. Toss: Pakistan.

On a pitch where the ball did not always come on to the bat, India had the better of a lacklustre contest. Pakistan's batsmen were much too circumspect after winning a good toss: with the exception of Mohammad Yousuf, they played the bowling with suspicion and an excessively defensive mindset, choosing to protect their wickets and stitch together a decent total rather than going for a big one. Yousuf managed to spend enough time at the crease to reach 82 from 88 balls, but that only took Pakistan to 239, which was not nearly enough. Indian fans were worried when Tendulkar went early, leg-before to Shoaib Akhtar's slower ball, but the new one-day captain Dhoni, helped by Yuvraj Singh, added 105 to settle the issue.

Man of the Match: M. S. Dhoni.
