Second One-Day International

India v Sri Lanka, 2005-06

Ramakrishnan Kaushik

At Mohali, October 28, 2005 (day/night). India won by eight wickets. Toss: India.

Pathan followed up his batting pyrotechnics of the first game with an outstanding opening burst. Making devastating use of late inswing, he reduced Sri Lanka to 54 for five inside 13 overs, including Jayasuriya and Dilshan for ducks. There was no late-order revival, and they crumbled to 122 all out on a good pitch. The match was over in little more than half the allotted time: Tendulkar made another half-century, this one - an unbeaten 67 from 69 balls - even easier on the eye than his effort in the previous game. There was a fascinating duel between Tendulkar and Muralitharan, but Sri Lanka had little to cheer.

Man of the Match: I. K. Pathan.
