Bob Woolmer, the former England player and South Africa coach, made a successful start to his tenure with Pakistan, who strolled to a straightforward win. Yasir Hameed won the match award for a controlled 102 from 123 balls on a slow pitch, and Shoaib Akhtar silenced the longrunning debate over his fitness with three for 30 from a full ten overs. Bangladesh's faltering runchase was stopped in its tracks when Javed Omar departed at 114 for four in the 30th over. For the second game running, he was run out in the 60s; each time he was comfortably Bangladesh's top-scorer. In his second international, Abdur Razzaq took another two wickets, only to discover afterwards that he had been reported to the ICC for a suspect action.
