This was Zimbabwe's best performance of the tournament but the final margin of defeat flattered them: they lacked the bowling resources to put pressure on Pakistan once Panyangara and, to a lesser extent, Hondo were out of the attack. Their batting was positive, with Ebrahim and Taibu adding an unbroken 91 from 65 balls to build on the foundation laid by a stand of 87 between openers Matsikenyeri and Taylor - their best in ten one-day matches together. But Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan, who kept wicket for the first time in place of the ailing Moin Khan, added an untroubled 114 from 128 balls to ease Pakistan's nerves. The Zimbabwe players wore black armbands following the death of Dawson Mutsekwa, the Zimbabwe Cricket Union's provincial development manager for Mashonaland.
