Fifth One-Day International

Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka

Special Correspondent

At Harare, April 29, 2004. Sri Lanka won by 25 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka.

A good performance in the field and a maiden international fifty by the Under-19 batsman Taylor, whose nemesis Vaas was again rested, enabled Zimbabwe at least to lose the final oneday game with some honour. Again, complacency affected Sri Lanka's batting; they were 162 for six when Taibu, who once more handed the gloves to Maregwede, took his second wicket. Then Arnold and Maharoof slaughtered the home bowling to the tune of 71 in eight overs, and 13 more came off the last, from Taibu himself. Zimbabwe's openers began confidently: their stand of 79 was the team's best of the series, and Taylor made 74 off 120 balls. Muralitharan was too good for most of the others.

Man of the Match: R. P. Arnold. Man of the Series: T. Taibu.
