Second One-Day International

Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka

Special Correspondent

At Bulawayo, April 22, 2004. Sri Lanka won by nine wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.

If Sri Lanka had not known what to expect in the first game, and if Zimbabwe had been running on youthful adrenalin, this match quickly restored the expected pattern. Vaas destroyed Zimbabwe's top order, and this time there was no real recovery from 27 for four, although Taibu threatened again before he was run out by a neat piece of work from substitute fielder Rangana Herath. Muralitharan finished the job with the ball and Sri Lanka began their innings 11 overs before lunch. They had reached 84 before Panyangara dismissed Jayasuriya again, immediately before the interval. Afterwards, a fine maiden international fifty from Jayantha saw Sri Lanka home.

Man of the Match: W. P. U. J. C. Vaas.
