Third match

VB Series

Soumya Bhattacharya

At Hobart, January 14, 2004. India won by seven wickets. India 6 pts. Toss: Zimbabwe.

Sehwag grabbed a catch and two wickets and batted with his inimitable mixture of method and madness to score a quickfire 90 and run the opposition to ground almost single-handedly. Almost the only thing Zimbabwe won in this game was the toss. Choosing to bat, they subsided to 114 for six before Streak and Ervine restored a shred or two of respectability. Those shreds were ripped off as Sehwag, launching five sixes and five fours, and Tendulkar clattered 129 for the first wicket. With the result a formality, Ganguly, who contributed a 26-ball 32, took the opportunity to shuffle the batting order, but Badani did not grab his chance.

Man of the Match: V. Sehwag. Attendance: 3,109.
