1912
The 1912 Almanack looked back on a summer of glorious sunshine (1912 was to be wettest and coldest of the century) but one in which many counties had balance sheets in the red. "It goes against the grain to have to deal so often with the financial side, but the subject cannot be avoided." Some laid the blame on the professionals, but the editor warned that any reduction in their pay would almost certainly drive them to play in the more lucrative Lancashire leagues. And the trinangular Test series was eagerly anticipated, but it was to be a failure, laregly due to the weather but partially because of the weakness of the Australian and South African sides.
