India v New Zealand

At Chennai, October 23, 2003 (day/night). No result. India 3 pts, New Zealand 3 pts. Toss: India.

The rain started falling shortly after the halfway point of India's innings, just as they were starting to recover from the loss of three wickets through an unbeaten 48-run fourth-wicket stand between Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh. Sehwag and Tendulkar started with aggressive intent, putting on 53 inside the first nine overs, and when Sehwag departed Laxman carried on where he left off, collecting 25 off 23 balls before miscuing a hook. By the time the umpires took the players from the field, Tendulkar was poised to strike and Yuvraj was looking similarly threatening. The biggest concern for New Zealand was a hamstring strain suffered by Cairns, who bowled only three overs in his comeback match before leaving the field.
