New Zealand's comfortable win would have been even easier if they had not thrown away four wickets to reckless shots in sight of victory. Their success was founded on all-round disciplined bowling and then an aggressive innings from Fleming, who grabbed the initiative during his 111- ball innings and saw New Zealand to the highest 15-over score of the tournament, 70 for one. Pakistan did themselves no favours by conceding 44 extras, equalling the fifth-highest total in one-day internationals, and they ended the match without captain Rashid Latif after he injured his right hand: Yasir Hameed took over behind the stumps; Yousuf Youhana took charge. Earlier, Younis Khan had held Pakistan together, in all facing 85 balls, though just five from the last three overs. Tuffey ended the innings with a double-wicket maiden.
