Fifth One-Day International

Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe

At Sharjah, April 7, 2003 (day/night). Zimbabwe won by four wickets. Zimbabwe 5 pts, Sri Lanka 1 pt. Toss: Sri Lanka.

Zimbabwe ruined Jayasuriya's hopes of a winning finale as captain by dumping Sri Lanka out of the tournament. Instead, Zimbabwe's sixth win in 29 matches between the sides meant they themselves reached the final. Five of the Sri Lankan top order fell for between 24 and 31, two to sprawling catches by Ebrahim; for Jayasuriya, who became the sixth man to appear in 300 oneday internationals, there was the pain of a second-ball duck. Zimbabwe's win should have been more comfortable, but they first allowed the last-wicket pair to add 25, and then wobbled within sight of victory. Three middle-order wickets fell in 17 balls, and it took the nous of Flower and Streak to see them home.

Man of the Match: G. W. Flower.
