Second One-Day International

Pakistan v Sri Lanka

At Sharjah, April 4, 2003 (day/night). Pakistan won by seven wickets. Pakistan 5 pts, Sri Lanka 1 pt. Toss: Sri Lanka. One-day international debuts: Naved-ul-Hasan; H. A. P. W. Jayawardene.

An unbroken stand of 124 in 19 overs between Yousuf Youhana and Younis Khan took Pakistan to their second successive win. However, it might have been much closer had Mubarak at longon not dropped Youhana on ten. Reprieved, Youhana and his partner ticked over at the run a ball they needed, against an attack handicapped by dew that made gripping the ball difficult. Earlier, Sangakkara finally made a century, in his 86th one-day international match, when he pushed a single from the penultimate delivery of the Sri Lankan innings. He had cantered at close to a run a ball, but the rest of Sri Lanka's batting was a let-down in the face of strong Pakistan bowling and fielding.

Man of the Match: K. C. Sangakkara.
