2nd One-Day International

Zimbabwe v Kenya

At Kwekwe, December 11, 2002. Zimbabwe won by 47 runs (D/L method). Toss: Kenya.

This was the first Zimbabwean one-day international held outside Harare and Bulawayo, and the Midlands authorities were blessed with slightly drier weather than most of the country. Campbell batted slowly at first to regain his form, but opened up later, while Kwekwe-born Friend, sent in as a pinch-hitter, attacked from the start to score 91 at a run a ball. The one bowler nobody could dominate was Martin Suji, who bowled ten overs without a break for 17 runs and the wicket of Vermeulen. Despite an aggressive fifty from Otieno, who survived several chances, Kenya were never in the hunt; when bad light and rain halted them, six overs from the end, they were 181 for six against a par score of 228.

Man of the Match: T. J. Friend.
