Rhodes and Pollock rescued South Africa from a precarious 151 for six and effectively won the match with an energetic stand of 99 in just 16 overs. Rhodes hustled 98 in 92 balls before top-edging an attempted pull and becoming Waqar Younis's 400th one-day victim; Pollock's bat sounded more like a rifle as he launched three sixes in the last two overs in a 51-ball 57. The South Africans' stifling respect for Wasim Akram - the only other man with 400 wickets - played a part in his three for 19 in ten overs; back-up seamers Mohammad Sami and Abdul Razzaq both conceded over 70. In reply, Salim Elahi emerged with respect intact, making 31 out of Pakistan's 140, but the rest were abysmal. Pollock failed to bowl a bad ball and claimed three for 12.
